Why is Hollywood so famous?
D.W. Griffith was the one who founded California's first film industry. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.
It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. People would travel all the way from other countries to see what was happening.
Hollywood is still a big part of our culture. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. We call them all "Hollywood."
What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?
A producer creates the movie. The movie is distributed through a distributor. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors can buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.
Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This means that some theaters might charge more money for a certain movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
Why aren't more independent films distributed?
Most indie filmmakers assume that their films will get picked up by distributors.
Because they love the work, distributors will likely buy their films.
This is not often the case. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.
They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.
They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.
Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.
They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.
What made Hollywood famous?
The simple answer was yes. They were willing to take chances and try something new. This made it famous. They made films that people would recall for years.

Do I have the right to start my own distribution firm?
No. A distributor is required to operate a distribution firm.
You don't have to distribute films from other people, but you must still follow certain rules.
You can't, for example, charge different prices to different theaters. You cannot also charge different fees to customers.
Your services cannot be sold to any company.
What happens if my film fails to perform at the box offices?
