Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding websites like Indiegogo or Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding platforms are fantastic because they allow you direct contact with potential investors.

But most filmmakers don't think they're qualified to ask for money. They believe they need another person to verify their claims.

Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.

Instead, they spend months working on their project, hoping someone will eventually notice.

They realized that they hadn't prepared properly when they launched their campaign.

They end up with only a few donations, instead of thousands of dollars.

Why aren't more independent films distributed?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.

But this is rare. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.

They don’t want to miss out on these profits.

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame still free?

Yes! You don't have to pay anything to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, if you want to take photos, you'll need to get a permit first. It costs $15 per person.

How much does it take to distribute a feature?

A typical distribution deal costs between $100,000-$150,000.

The average cost per theater is around $10,000.

The average cost per screen is around $5,000.

It means that, if you have 100 screens your distribution fees would be $500,000.

If you have ten screens, your distribution fees would be $50,000.

How many theaters would I need in order to get my money back?

It all depends on how long your theatrical release will be running.

If your film is going to be run for less then two weeks, one theater will suffice.

You will need at least two theaters if you plan to keep your film running for more than 2 weeks.

Is Hollywood making more from international sales than domestic?

Yes, but only slightly. About 17% of total revenue was generated abroad in 2017. 83% of domestic revenues were generated in 2017.

In fact, more than half the world's people live in overseas markets.

This means many people who might never watch a movie at home will still want to see yours.

How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
