Crowdfunding sites are great because they allow you to reach out directly to potential investors.

However, most filmmakers do not believe they are qualified to request money. They feel they must have someone to speak for them.

They don't believe anyone should invest in them, as they have not proven their worth yet.

Instead, they spend months working on their project, hoping someone will eventually notice.

How To

How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?

One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why can't people choose to use a different street than having stars all over the place?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
