FAQ

Hollywood's fame?

The answer was obvious. Because they were willing take risks and do something completely different, it became famous. They made films that would last a lifetime.

They were open to new ideas and had the courage of trying them out.

Why is it that so few independent films are ever released?

Indie filmmakers tend to assume that distributors will buy their films.

They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.

But this is rare. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.

They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.

They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

What is the difference between a producer and a distributor?

A producer creates the movie. The movie is distributed by a distributor. Producers can sell their movies directly to theaters, distributors, or other companies like Netflix. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors have to negotiate with theater owners over where their movies should play. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
